QR Codes / QR Barcodes / Print Management

What are QR Codes?

qr code

A QR Code is a 2 dimensional barcode that can be viewed by QR scanners, mobile phones with a camera, and most smartphones with the correct scanning software installed.

The code consists of black and white images in a square pattern. Each QR code contains encoded information which can be text, URL or other data.

Initially very common in Japan, where it was first used and created by a company called Denso-Wave in 1994, the QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes.
QR is the abbreviation for Quick Response.

QR Codes can be used to encode all sorts of information which allows anyone with a scanner or scanning software to read.

QR Codes can hoold hundreds of times more information than a conventional barcode.

QR codes can be seen everwhere and have many uses, from marketing a trailer for a movie to linking to a music download or linking to an information site.

QR codes have started penetrating marketing mechanisms and can be used for generating ticket sales, discount coupons, competition entry, geo location services or brand awareness through technology.

Various Media where QR codes have been used include: Point of Sale stands, Point of purchase units, billboard ads, in store displays, event ticketing and tracking, trade-show management, business cards, print ads, competitions, direct mail campaigns, websites, email marketing, and couponing just to name a few.
